7th June - Astronauts vs Mount Everest

There have been 219 fatalities recorded on Mount Everest from 1922 through to the end of 2010.  This is a rate of 4.3 fatalities for every 100 summits.

In comparison there have been 18 astronaut and cosmonaut fatalities up until 2010.  This is out of a total of 523 people that have been into space (defined as being 100km about earth).  This gives a fatality percentage of 3.44%.

So you can see that it is safer to go to space than to climb Mount Everest.

As interesting as that is, I'm sure you'll find Kim Kardashian doing a remake on Jane Fonda's Barbarella far more easier to digest.
